Photo postcard of Donaldson & Howard Wholesale Fruit Commission Company truck, Denver, CO, ca. 1909.

This photo shows a load of fruit being trucked to a customer by Donaldson & Howard employees.   I don’t know the make of this truck, but its covered and enclosed cargo bed represent an upgrade from the company’s original Rapid open stake bed trucks.  Note the steering wheel on the left side, the chain drive and hard rubber tires.  The headlamps most likely burned kerosene.

It’s also interesting to note the three cylindrical objects within and tied behind the truck bed — some type of fruit baskets?  Also, note the straw in the crate that’s tied on at the rear of the truck.

In acquiring the Rapid trucks, probably around 1908, Donaldson and Howard led the Denver wholesale business community in moving from horse- to gas-powered transport.  If you would like to read more about Donaldson & Howard and Rapid trucks, please see my blog posting at: https://jacksoldphotosofcolorado.com/1584-2/ .)

Ideas anyone about which “Annex” the sign in the background refers to?
